Andy Whitfield had just become an international star in the hit television show, “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” when he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Before now, he and his charismatic wife, Vashti, used their combined determination to turn their dreams into realities. So, making a promise in matching “Be Here Now” tattoos, they set their sites on beating cancer. Rather than hide in the shadows, Andy invited a camera to follow him and his family throughout their journey, in the hopes that he might inspire others facing similar challenges. Their openness, infectious humor, love and self-affirming attitudes, gives the audience a personal look into the battle with cancer, that is rarely shared, especially by a celebrity. And, ultimately, “Be Here Now” transcends the subject of cancer and becomes a universal life-lesson for anyone, about going for your dreams, embracing each moment and fearlessly living in the here and now – despite the potential outcome.

HOW YOU MAY HELP – You may now get involved in the making of this documentary by contributing to our Kickstarter campaign. Led by the Academy Award® Nominated and multiple award winning filmmaker, Lilibet Foster, a camera followed Andy’s unfolding story for over a year. Together with the support of Sam Maydew, producer, Andy’s manager and principal of productionand talent company, The Collective, who brought everyone together, we have been able to get the documentary to this point.

We now need your help to finish it. All the money we raise on Kickstarter will fund the additional filming and editing needed to finish the documentary. Anything we raise over that will go towards helping us fulfill our goal of distributing and marketing it in high profile distribution channels and with cancer related organizations, as widely as possible, internationally. By contributing, you will not only be rewarded with amazing and limited edition prizes like – gift certificates for Andy’s favorite motorcycle store Deus Ex Machina of Sydney, Australia and Venice, California; inspirational Be Here Now leather cuff made by BedStu.com; collector’s items from “Spartacus: Blood and Sand;" limited edition photographs from Andy’s family’s collection; or a personal phone call and autographed photo with fellow “Spartacus” gladiator, Jai Courtney, who is co-starring opposite Bruce Willis in the upcoming “A Good Day to Die Hard” and alongside Tom Cruise in “Jack Reacher” – but you will be helping to make Andy’s wishes come true – to help and inspire others to live in the here and now, while pushing to accelerate the pace of cancer research. Andy gave selflessly by letting a camera follow his personal journey, so let’s give back by fulfilling the legacy he wanted to leave behind.

We can only finish this documentary with your help. Pledge and spread the word to others. Twitter it, “Like” us on Facebook, email this Kickstarter link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/426354716/be-here-now-the-andy-whitfield-story to your friends, family, supporters, co-workers and anyone else. The more people who participate, the more ability we will have to get Andy’s story out to as many people as possible.

Maybe McQueen is an homage to my beautiful husband Andy who died of cancer in September 2011, aged just 39. Losing my best friend, the father of my babies, the man I used to laugh with about something ridiculous on a daily basis, has completely broken my heart. At the same time it has fuelled me to get on with my life, to stop waiting until tomorrow when I feel stronger, happier, clearer or braver and to finally back myself in the way that Andy always backed me.    visit www.maybemcqueen.com
